In May, Skiles Group hosted construction safety stand-downs across multiple projects in recognition of OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction and Mental Health Awareness Month. Supported by resources from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), these events gave project teams and trade partners an opportunity to pause, connect, and focus on two critical aspects of jobsite well-being: fall prevention and mental health awareness.
With falls continuing to be one of the leading causes of injuries and fatalities in construction, discussions centered on ladder safety, aerial lifts, scaffolding, fall protection systems, and the everyday practices that help workers return home safely each day.
Teams also participated in conversations about mental health, suicide prevention, recognizing when someone may need support, and the resources available to help. Creating a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up and supporting one another remains an important part of building safer, stronger jobsites.
Construction safety stand-downs were held across projects in Aurora, Colorado, and throughout Texas, including College Station, Olney, McGregor, Fort Worth, Dallas, Plano, Denton, Grapevine, and Midlothian.
In addition to the safety discussions, the events served as worker appreciation gatherings, recognizing the dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment our trade partners bring to every project.
Thank you to everyone who participated, shared insights, asked questions, and continues to make safety a core part of how we work. Special thanks to Safety Directors Brian Webster and Andy Middleton for organizing and leading these important conversations.
At Skiles Group, safety extends beyond compliance. It is about protecting people, supporting one another, and creating an environment where everyone can succeed both on and off the jobsite.
